Dr. Paulose Mar Gregorios Chair

 Bishop Paulose Mar Gregorios born Paul Verghese on 9 August1922 at Tripunithura, to a  traditional Christian family.He started his career as a freelance journalist and later took up  a  job as a teacher in Ethiopia. He came to the attention of the Emperor H.H Haile  Sellassie and he was appointed as the Head of various institutions in Ethiopia and was  sent to U.S for higher studies. In 1958 he returned to India and was ordained as Deacon.  He was one of the Presidents of W.C.C (1983-91) and Vice- President of the Christian  Peace Conference. In 1967, he was appointed as the Principal of the Orthodox  Theological Seminary, Kottayam. He was appointed Metripolitan, on 16 February 1975 and  after one year he took charge of the Delhi Diocese and established the Delhi Orthodox  Centre. He has authored many literary works and was the recipient of many prestigious  national and international awards. He died on 24 November 1996.

University instituted the  Chair on 8 January1997 in commemoration of the famous Bishop who was the Metropolitan of the Delhi Diocese of the Orthodox Syrian church for over two decades.
