Prof. (Dr.) Bismi Gopalakrishnan serves as Head of the School of Indian Legal Thought and the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension at Mahatma Gandhi University, where she is also Director of Research. Her academic journey includes several distinguished roles at MGU, such as Syndicate Member and Dean of the Faculty of Law.She has also served as a member of the Academic Council at NUALS and as Head of the Department of Legal Studies at the University of Kerala. Additionally, she has directed the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre for Social Justice and Human Rights and taught at the School of Legal Studies, Kannur University.
Dr. Bismi Gopalakrishnan specialises in Health Care Laws, Intellectual Property Rights, and Public Law. She has chaired the Board of Studies (PG) at the University of Kerala and served on various boards, including the Board of Studies in Human Rights and Duties Education at the University of Madras and the Faculty of Law Board at Central University’s Thiruvalla Campus. She has also held the position of Assistant Director at the Centre for Global Academics, University of Kerala.
In her commitment to legal reform, Dr. Bismi Gopalakrishnan has been a member of the Committee for the Identification of Subject Areas of Traditional Knowledge for the Government of Kerala. Notably, she convened the drafting of the Model Public Health Bill 2008 and the Model Bill for Emergency Medical Care 2019 for the Kerala Law Reforms Commission.
Recognised for her contributions to legal scholarship, Dr. Bismi Gopalakrishnan was selected for the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ International Visitor Leadership Programme. She has presented papers at over 30 international seminars and more than 80 national seminars, demonstrating her expertise and dedication to advancing legal education. Furthermore, she has coordinated over 60 national conferences and seminars and served as the Director for six international seminars.
