The Review Committee, constituted by the Kerala State Higher Education Council to look into the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme, visited Mahatma Gandhi University on October 6, 2026. A detailed discussion on the programme was also held at the University.
The programme, held at the Senate Hall on Tuesday, was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) D. Mavoothu. In his inaugural address, he said Kerala had implemented several key provisions of the National Education Policy, which has brought significant changes to the higher education sector, including the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme. “Whatever changes are introduced, quality remains the cornerstone of education. If quality is compromised, no other initiative will be effective,” he added.
Prof. (Dr.) Ison V. Vanchipurackal, Convenor of the Syndicate Standing Committee on Academic Affairs, said five committees were functioning at Mahatma Gandhi University to examine various aspects related to the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme.
The discussion was attended by Review Committee Chairperson Prof. (Dr.) Gladston Raj S. and committee members Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Komath, Dr. Gigi George and Dr. Ajesh S. R. Syndicate members Dr. Thomas Kuruvilla, Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Mohanraj, Dr. Jobin Chamakkala, Dr. Alson Mart, Dr. Athira Prakash, Prof. (Dr.) Robinet Jacob, Dr. Shahavas Shareef P., and Dr. Rejimon P.K.; Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Binu George Varghese; Dr. Sajna Jaleel, Professor holding charge of the Controller of Examinations; Finance Officer Biju Mathew; Research Director Prof. (Dr.) Jayachandran K.; Graduate School Director Prof. (Dr.) Baiju K.R.; Deans of various faculties; Chairpersons of Boards of Studies; members of the MGU UGP Monitoring Committee/Sub-committees; teachers; and University staff also participated in the discussion.
The discussion covered academic, administrative and policy-related aspects of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme. The curriculum framework, functioning of Boards of Studies, curriculum revisions, credit structure, teachers’ workload, college affiliation, Academic Bank of Credits, college transfers and credit transfers, conduct of examinations, amendments to regulations, financial arrangements and the question bank system were among the topics discussed.
The Review Committee has been visiting various universities and colleges and compiling feedback on the implementation of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme.
