Prof. (Dr.) Binu George Varghese

Prof. (Dr.) Binu George Varghese is the Dean and Director of the School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the university. He has previously served as the Secretary of the Kerala State Sports Council from 2014 to 2016.

Dr. Binu has held various responsibilities, including serving as a member of the University Academic Council, Member Secretary of the Physical Education Board, Chairman of curriculum formulation committees in various universities, organizer of national and inter-university sports competitions, and Convenor of the High-Power Committee formed to draft the sports policy of the Government of Kerala. He also played a notable role in organising the 35th National Games.

Dr. Binu, who played a crucial role in bringing Mahatma Gandhi University to the forefront of national and international sports competitions, has also been elected as the Joint Secretary (Sports) of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Academic background

He graduated with a B.P.Ed. with first rank from the University of Kerala. He completed his post-graduation from the Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education under the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Thiruvananthapuram. Beginning his career as a physical education teacher in 1996, he joined Mahatma Gandhi University as a faculty member in 2006. He also completed his Ph.D. from MGU.

Co-author of two books, Dr. Binu has published more than 25 research papers in national and international research journals. Five research scholars have completed their Ph.D. under his guidance.
