Commemorative event honouring the World Wetlands Day was organised by the School of Environmental Sciences at Mahatma Gandhi University. Students and teachers cleared plastic debris from the Pathiramanal Island located in Vembanad Lake and raised awareness among tourists on the impact of plastic pollution.
The collected waste was handed over to the processing units. Dr. Thomson Davis, the Kottayam District Coordinator for the State Biodiversity Board, delivered the message. As an integral facet of the programme, the water quality of Vembanad lake was also assessed.
Associate Professor Dr. V.P. Sylas, Dr. H.T. Harsha, Dr. Kannan, Dr. Babu, Dr. R.S. Prashant, Dr. Keerthy Suresh, Devika P. Sajan and Athira led the event.
