Mahatma Gandhi University’s School of Pedagogical Sciences celebrated ‘Merit Day 2026’ to honour students for their academic excellence and hard work. The event was inaugurated by Minister for Water Resources and Housing, Adv. Mons Joseph. Mahatma Gandhi University Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) D. Mavoothu presided over the function.

Minister Adv. Mons Joseph said that the progress Kerala has achieved in the field of education has empowered the state to move forward with a focus on global opportunities. He said that the university’s initiative to publicly recognise talented students would inspire them to reach greater heights in the future. Bharat, once labelled a poor country, has today demonstrated to the world that its people and knowledge are its greatest strengths. The government is committed to providing an international-standard educational environment and offering courses that meet the aspirations of students, he added.

In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) D. Mavoothu said that education should go beyond merely helping students earn degrees and should enable them to become individuals with social commitment, goodness and compassion. He said that the future of India lies in the hands of its teachers and urged students to utilise the knowledge and degrees they acquire from the university for the welfare of society.

University Syndicate members Dr. Jobin Chamakkala, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Komath, Dr. Ison V. Vanchipurackal and Ann Sebastian, along with Dr. Sajna Jaleel, Director, School of Pedagogical Sciences and Professor holding the additional charge of Controller of Examinations, also spoke at the function. Trophies were presented to students who achieved outstanding results in the examinations.
