The Inter-University Centre for Social Science Research and Extension (IUCSSRE), Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), is organising a Special Lecture by Dr Dilip M. Menon, Professor and Director of the Centre for Indian Studies in Africa at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, on Tuesday, 7th January 2025. The theme of the lecture is Thinking Beside the Ocean.
In his lecture, Dr Menon will propose the concept of the Ocean as a ‘Method,’ a novel framework for reimagining the humanities and social sciences. By foregrounding maritime connections, he challenges the dominance of national histories and area studies, advocating instead for a fluid, interconnected approach to social and humanistic research.
Prof. A.K. Ramakrishnan, Nelson Mandela Chair Professor at Mahatma Gandhi University, will chair the session.
The event will take place in the Conference Hall of IUCSSRE, located in the Convergence Academia Complex, MGU Campus, at 10:45 AM.
