MGU to Host Youth Consultation on Future Urban Policy Framing

The School of Gandhian Thought and Development Studies, in collaboration with the Centre for Technology and Human Development Studies at Mahatma Gandhi University, will organise a landmark Youth Consultation on Future Urban Policy Framing on 7th February 2025. The event, held under the leadership of The Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) Urban Policy Cell and UNICEF, marks a significant step in shaping Kerala’s urban development for the next 25 years.

The consultation will be inaugurated by Prof. C. T. Aravindakumar, Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall of the Convergence Academia Complex. The initiative is a crucial component of the Kerala Urban Policy Commission’s efforts to formulate a comprehensive and forward-looking urban policy framework for the state.

With the participation of 200 young individuals from various academic disciplines, including social sciences, technology, arts, sciences, and professional courses, the event aims to bring diverse perspectives into urban policy-making. Through structured dialogue and interactive workshops, participants will have the opportunity to share their vision for sustainable and inclusive urban development.

The consultation also seeks to enhance awareness about the role of Urban Local Bodies and governance mechanisms while fostering active civic engagement through direct involvement in policy discussions.

This pioneering initiative is the first systematic effort to integrate youth perspectives into Kerala’s urban policy formulation. Students and young professionals passionate about contributing to the future of urban development are encouraged to be part of this transformative event.
