Mahatma Gandhi University has once again reaffirmed its academic excellence in the Times Higher Education Rankings for 2026.
The university , which is the first University in India to be named after the Father of the nation ,has secured a place in the 501–600 band, maintaining its distinction as the highest-ranked institution in Kerala and secured ninth position in India. The University secured 43.6 to 46.5 overall points.
Cochin University of Science and Technology, which came second in Kerala is placed in the rank of 1001 -1200 with 32.1 to 35.4 overall points .
University of Kerala came third in the state with 1201-1500 band. KU has an overall score of 27.3 -32 points.
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, founded in 1909, is the highest rated University in India in THE rankings with 201 -250 band.
Oxford University retains the number one spot for the tenth consecutive year, driven by its strong research environment score.
The Times Higher Education evaluation covered 2,191 higher education institutions across 115 countries, assessing them on multiple criteria including teaching environment, research standards, quality of research, international outlook , and partnerships with industries.
India now has the second highest number of ranked universities for the first time, behind only the US.
