Drones for Cleaning Solar Panels: MGU Showcases New Possibilities

Mahatma Gandhi University showcased new possibilities in drone technology to a group trained in drone operations. A workshop organised by the School of Environmental Sciences demonstrated how drones can be used to clean high-altitude solar panels and glass surfaces of buildings.

Medium-category drones are used for this purpose. The cleaning process is carried out by spraying water forcefully from a tank attached to the drone. With the increasing use of solar panels, expertise in this field can lead to promising opportunities, said Dr K.R. Baiju, Dean of the School of Environmental Sciences.

The workshop, conducted in collaboration with Asia Soft Pvt. Ltd. and Next Leap Aeronautics, also highlighted how drones can be used to deliver essential supplies to disaster-affected areas. A total of 75 participants from various sectors attended the session.

Dr V.P. Silas, Dr Ebin Varghese, Asia Soft representative S. Nishad, and Next Leap Aeronautics representative Sundarapandian addressed the gathering.
