MGU Maintains Its Streak in Times World University Rankings

 

For the third consecutive year, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, has secured a place in the World University Rankings published by the London-based Times Higher Education. It shares the Second Position with Anna University ,Tamil Nadu and Jamia Millia Islamia University ,New Delhi.

 

MGU, which was previously ranked in the Times Ranking for the years 2022 and 2023, has secured the 77th place in the Times Young University Rankings published this year.

 

In the latest World University Rankings, the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore ,has claimed the top spot among Indian educational institutions, falling within the rank band of 201 -250. The three universities sharing the second place, including MGU, are in the 501 – 600 rank band. Notably, Cochin University of Science and Technology is the only other university from Kerala on the list.

 

Oxford University has maintained its top position for the eighth consecutive year in a list that includes 1904 institutions from 108 countries. Following closely are Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from the US, along with Harvard and Cambridge Universities from the UK, holding the second and fifth positions respectively.

 

Times notes that the ranking is based on their new WUR 3.0 methodology, which includes 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators measuring an institution’s performance across five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry connections and international outlook.

 

Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar, the Vice-Chancellor of MGU, mentioned that the University’s progress in academic and research fields, coupled with its adept harnessing of the possibilities of the new era, has been instrumental in sustaining its ranking.

 

MGU was honoured as the best centre for higher studies in Polymer Science in the 2022-23 US News rankings. Additionally, it secured the 101st position in the Times Ranking for universities in developing countries in 2022 and attained the third position in the Atal Ranking by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in recognition of its outstanding performance in research and entrepreneurship development activities.
