Mahatma Gandhi University Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) D Mavoothu said that students are the greatest strength in determining the country’s future, and the younger generation can utilise knowledge and technology for the progress of society and the nation.
He was delivering the Independence Day message after hoisting the national flag at the university campus as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
The VC noted that freedom entrusts responsibility upon every citizen alongside rights, and everyone is committed to safeguarding the country’s unity and constitutional values.
He said that rather than fearing technology, its potential should be harnessed, while simultaneously emphasizing free thinking, inquiry, and creativity. Active participation of the youth must be ensured on the journey towards Vikasit Bharat, he added.
The VC also stated that the university’s mission is not limited to awarding degrees and certificates alone; the university community must be capable of nurturing a socially responsible youth and making a stronger contribution to national development through research.
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, the Vice Chancellor inspected the Guard of Honour and acknowledged the ceremonial salute.
The function, which commenced with the recital of Vande Mataram, was attended by Syndicate members Dr. Jobin Jose, Prof. (Dr.) Robinet Jacob, Ms. Ann Sebastian, Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Binu George Varghese, along with teaching and non-teaching staff, and students.
