MGU Youth Fest: Kottayam Awakens to Cultural Extravaganza

Kottayam is currently abuzz with the vibrant celebration of youth and culture as the Mahatma Gandhi University Arts Festival titled, ‘We, the people of India’, unfolds in a grand inauguration ceremony at Thirunakkara Maidan. The town, awakened by a colourful proclamation rally, is now fully immersed in days brimming with artistic brilliance and creative expression.

Amidst a spectacle of colours, movie actor and MLA M. Mukesh inaugurated the festival, while Minister for Co-operation and Ports V.N. Vasavan honoured the versatile film actor Vijayaraghavan, M. Mukesh, and movie director M.A. Nishad. The esteemed presence of dignitaries, including the University Vice Chancellor Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar, Syndicate members, and University Union office bearers, adds a touch of grandeur to the event.

Before the inauguration, the streets of Kottayam buzzed with boundless energy as students from various colleges participated in a lively proclamation rally. The festival spans nine venues, which have been named after the core principles upheld by the Constitution of India- Secular, Socialist, Democratic, Sovereign,Republic, Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. It promises a rich tapestry of culture with 74 events showcasing the talents of over 7000 students from 215 colleges.

With the introduction of 13 new competition events, this year’s festival aims to further elevate the cultural experience for participants and spectators alike, offering fresh avenues for artistic exploration.

The festival’s grand finale will culminate in a valedictory function on the evening of March 3rd, with Higher Education Minister Dr. R. Bindu inaugurating the closing ceremony.
