Kerala aims to emerge as one of the world’s finest centres for higher education, said Minister for Cooperation, Ports and Devaswom V. N. Vasavan. He was inaugurating the M.G. University International Education Conclave Edu Vision 2035.
The Minister noted that the Kerala government invests the highest amount in India for higher education and infrastructure development, and that the objective is to transform society by closely linking higher education with the employment market.
He added that the government has so far invested more than ₹400 crore in Mahatma Gandhi University, and that major infrastructure development works related to sports are currently underway on the campus. He also formally released the University’s Institutional Development Plan (IDP) by handing it over to Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. C. T. Aravindakumar.
Presiding over the function, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. C. T. Aravindakumar emphasised the need to transform universities into multidisciplinary institutions. He informed that a proposal has been submitted to the government to affiliate a government medical college and an engineering college with the University.
The theme of the conclave focused on how higher education in Kerala—and Mahatma Gandhi University in particular—should be shaped for the future. Held over two days, the conclave featured four panel discussions covering diverse fields such as science, social sciences, international studies, arts, literature, media, and digital education. Two hybrid panel discussions with experts from the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia were also conducted.
Alumni of Mahatma Gandhi University working across the world in academia, industry, arts, literature, and media participated in the two-day conclave, both in person and online. The international conclave was jointly organised by the M.G. University Alumni Association and the University.
