Green campus initiative: MGU introduces bicycles for campus transport

Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) has launched an eco-friendly transportation initiative within its campus by introducing geared bicycles for students, teachers and staff. The primary goal is to reduce pollution and encourage sustainable commuting options. Initially, eight bicycles are available at the main gate of the campus during the pilot phase.

Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar, Vice-Chancellor of MGU, inaugurated the scheme by riding a bicycle alongside students. He expressed optimism about expanding the initiative pending the success of the pilot phase. To utilise the bicycles, users can scan a QR code located near the main gate and provide their details. The bicycles are accessible from 9 AM to 9 PM and are intended for travel within the campus premises, with each ride limited to a two-hour duration.

The inaugural function was attended by dignitaries including University Registrar, Dr. K. Jayachandran, Controller of Examinations,Dr. C.M. Sreejit, and Finance Officer, Biju Mathew.
