SWAYAM stands for “Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds.” It is a programme launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to offer online courses to learners across India. The aim of this programme is to bridge the technology gap for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and are unable to participate in the knowledge-based economy. The programme ultimately empowers them with knowledge and skills for their personal and professional development.
To ensure the quality of content, SWAYAM has nine National Coordinators: AICTE for self-paced courses, NPTEL for Engineering, UGC for post-graduation education, CEC for under-graduate education, NCERT & NIOS for school education, IGNOU for out of the school students and, IIMB for management studies.
The programme is designed to promote quality education more accessible .SWAYAM is one of the key platforms to offer IIMB courses. It provides a variety of learning components, including video lectures, interview videos, text components, reading materials, and ungraded self-assessment questions.
IIMBx offered 17 unique courses and nine re-run courses to date. Apart from this, the institute conducted exams for 14 courses and issued certificates to over 300 students. This initiative is part of the broader effort to leverage technology to make education more inclusive and accessible to a wider range of students.
