Students Should Utilise Opportunities in Space Studies – Dr S. Unnikrishnan Nair

Students should strive to make use of the opportunities in the field of space studies, suggested Dr S. Unnikrishnan Nair, Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram. He was delivering the P.K. Iyengar Memorial Lecture at Mahatma Gandhi University.

Space studies, a field that continues to evolve with time, offer immense potential for growth and exploration. Students are now actively involved in designing and launching satellites for various research purposes. ISRO provides guidance and support to students who come forward with innovative ideas. There should be a collective effort to realise such ideas, he said.

Dr Nair elaborated on India’s space research activities and also addressed questions from students.

The lecture was organised as a prelude to the Kerala Science Congress and was inaugurated by Prof. K.P. Sudheer, Executive Vice President of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). Vice-Chancellor Dr C.T. Aravindakumar presided over the function.

University Registrar Dr Bismi Gopalakrishnan and KSCSTE Principal Scientist Dr Binuja Thomas also spoke at the event. The programme was jointly organised by KSCSTE, Kerala Agricultural University, Mahatma Gandhi University, and the Kerala Forest Research Institute.
