The School of Gender Studies at Mahatma Gandhi University organised a two-day national seminar titled “Re-reading Towards Equality Report: Understanding Gender Questions of the Present” on November 18-19, 2024. The seminar commemorated the 50th anniversary of the publication of the landmark “Towards Equality Report”. It served as a platform for academics, activists, and students to engage in meaningful discussions and reflections on gender equality and the status of women in India.
University Registrar Prof. Dr. Bismi Gopalakrishnan delivered the keynote address. Dr. Rekharaj was the chairperson. Dr. Arathi P.M. introduced the theme, while Prof. Indu Agnihotri and Dr. Malavika Binny presented on the topic. The seminar featured esteemed representatives from women’s organisations, including Elizabeth Abraham, Thankamma Chacko, Sister Reggie Augustine, Leah Krishnan, and Uma Srinivasan, who shared their valuable experiences.
A diverse range of experts from academia and cultural fields participated, presenting papers on various aspects of gender equality. Hamida C.K., Dr. Sania A.S., Nazira N.M., Vaishnavi Shaji, Anu Sunny, Atulya R., Jayakrishnan A.K., Rishika C., Anila M.M., Srilakshmi T.S., Rajisha C.R., Jithu Shaji, Krishnapriya M.T., and Arya Jayamon presented papers at the seminar.
