The National Institute of Plant Science Technology (NIPST) at Mahatma Gandhi University, in association with the Kerala State Biodiversity Board, is organising a national seminar titled “Invasives and Habitat Loss: A Threat to the Biodiversity of Kerala.” The event, scheduled for January 16 and 17, 2025, at the Auditorium, Convergence Academia Complex, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, will be inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar on January 16.
This seminar aims to address critical concerns affecting Kerala’s biodiversity, focusing on habitat loss, invasive species, biodiversity conservation, and eco-restoration. Biological invasions, identified as the second-largest threat to native biodiversity, require urgent attention. The event will provide a platform for experts to explore sustainable solutions.
Renowned speakers at the seminar include Pramod P.P., Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director of the Periyar Tiger Reserve; Dr. T.V. Sajeev, Chief Scientist at the Kerala Forest Research Institute; Dr. Muhammed Jafer Palot, Scientist at the Zoological Survey of India; and Dr. Shaji C.P., a distinguished Fish Taxonomist and Conservation Biologist.
Students, researchers, and teachers are invited to present their research papers or posters. The last date for abstract submission is January 14. For further information, participants can contact the organisers at 9645174637.
