MGU’s strategic expansion building on NAAC A++ Excellence

Mahatma Gandhi University is poised to expand its activities in academia, research, and entrepreneurship following its attainment of an A++ grade in the fourth cycle reaccreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Vice-Chancellor Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar highlighted the University’s goal to attract a maximum number of students, including those from foreign countries.With only 13 universities in India achieving A++ in the fourth cycle of NAAC reaccreditation, MGU stands out as the sole university from Kerala on this list. This achievement is attributed to the disciplined work led by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, ensuring sustained excellence from the initial stages of NAAC grading.

Over successive reaccreditation cycles, MGU has experienced remarkable growth across various metrics, maintaining a strong position in NIRF and Times rankings in recent years. The University now aspires to secure a prominent place in the renowned QS ranking.In its fortieth anniversary year, MGU has prioritised campus renovation, infrastructure development, and eco-friendly waste management initiatives, leading to a significant transformation. Major infrastructure projects are currently in progress, further enhancing the University’s facilities. As part of its academic expansion, MGU is making arrangements to establish international campuses, particularly in gulf countries, and initiate joint master’s programmes with renowned foreign universities.

MGU is the only university to receive permission to start online PG programmes equivalent to regular programmes. The Online M.Com programme has already begun, garnering significant interest. Moreover, the MBA programme has received an exceptional response, with applications currently open for enrollment. Additionally, MGU plans to introduce eight online PG programmes and three UG programmes, providing opportunities for working individuals to enhance their academic qualifications. A project for an International Centre for International Students has been submitted, aimed at increasing the number of foreign students and enhancing semester exchange programmes.

MGU is moving forward to start four-year undergraduate programmes in the next academic year. There are plans to start four-year UG programmes on the University campus as well.To support entrepreneurship, the University will expand its Business Innovation and Incubation Centre, which has already supported 121 student startups since its inception in 2016. The MGU Innovation Foundation will also enhance its coworking and pilot plant facilities, including expansions for the Paramasthra high-performance computing facility.

Developmental projects are being realised through various funding sources, with ongoing constructions such as the Centralised Lab Complex and Indoor Stadium Complex, VC added.Syndicate member Dr. A. Jose, Registrar Dr. K. Jayachandran, IQAC Director Dr. Robinent Jacob, and Joint Director Dr. V.P. Sylas were also present at the media conference.
