The National Service Scheme (NSS) at Mahatma Gandhi University is set to form a folk song troupe. Twenty students from various teams that participated in the University-level competition for NSS units have been selected for this initiative.
The troupe will begin stage performances after completing special training and is expected to perform at various programmes organised by the NSS across the state, according to Dr.E.N.Shivadasan, NSS Programme Coordinator.
Eleven teams that secured top positions in college-level competitions participated in the University-level folk song competition. Maharajas College, Ernakulam, earned the first position, while K.M.M College, Thrikkakkara, and Sree Sankara College, Kalady, secured the second and third positions, respectively.
Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar, Vice Chancellor of MGU, inaugurated the competition. The inaugural session was presided over by Registrar Dr. K. Jayachandran. Dr. E.N. Shivadasan, Dr. Thomas Varghese, Dr. K.A. Manjusha, and programme officers from various colleges also participated.
In a separate initiative, the MGU NSS has previously established a 4,500-member disaster management team comprised of volunteers from various colleges. Additionally, NSS is actively engaged in the Snehaveedu project, which focuses on constructing houses for underprivileged families.
