Mahatma Gandhi University has marked a significant stride in the London-based Times Higher Education’s latest World University Rankings. The University has advanced to the 401-500 rank band in the 2025 rankings, up from the 501-600 category in 2024.Apart from MGU, there are only three other universities from India in the 401-500 rank category: Anna University in Tamil Nadu, SIMATS Deemed University, and Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management in Himachal Pradesh.
For the ninth consecutive year, the University of Oxford in the UK has maintained its top position in the rankings, which feature 2,092 educational institutions from 115 countries.The Times ranking is based on 18 indicators, including teaching, research quality, research excellence, international perspective, and collaboration with industry.
Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, Dr. C.T Aravindakumar, stated that this progress in ranking is a recognition for the University, which consistently excels in various fields, adapting to changing times and technologies.The University, which has consistently featured in the Times Higher Education rankings since 2021, achieved outstanding recognition this year. It was ranked first in India in the Times Young University Rankings and third in Asia in the Times Asia University Rankings.
Dr. R. Bindu, Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education, congratulated MGU for this achievement. She acknowledged that the outstanding efforts of Mahatma Gandhi University greatly contribute to Kerala’s higher education sector, elevating it to world-class standards.
