
A two-day national seminar titled “Invasives and Habitat Loss: A Threat to the Biodiversity of Kerala” commenced at Mahatma Gandhi University. Vice Chancellor Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar inaugurated the event. The seminar focuses on critical concerns affecting Kerala’s biodiversity, including habitat loss, invasive species, biodiversity conservation, and eco-restoration.
Dr. K. Jayachandran, Director of the Graduate School at MGU; Dr. Shaji C.P., a distinguished fish taxonomist and conservation biologist; Dr. M.S. Jisha, Director of the National Institute of Plant Science Technology; and Dr. Jomi Agustin addressed the gathering during the inaugural session.
On the first day, Dr. Muhammed Jafer Palot, Scientist at the Zoological Survey of India, and Dr. Shaji C.P. presented their views on the subject.
On January 17, Pramod P.P., Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director of the Periyar Tiger Reserve, and Dr. T.V. Sajeev, Chief Scientist at the Kerala Forest Research Institute, will address the seminar.
The seminar is organised by the National Institute of Plant Science Technology at the university in collaboration with the Kerala State Biodiversity Board.
