Exploring the Voices of Dissent: T M Krishna on Plurality and Cosmopolitanism

The famous Carnatic vocalist, writer and an activist , T.M. Krishna emphasised the need for a social environment where common people can fearlessly raise questions to those in power, underscoring the importance of spaces in fostering critical discussions on societal issues in India’s historical context. He was delivering a lecture on the topic “Voices of Dissent: Plurality and Cosmopolitanism in the Indian Past”, at the Senate Hall, M G University. T.M. Krishna pointed out the need for a fearless society and theconsequences of keeping silent about undesirable trends that will be faced later. He added that freedom should be found within ourselves, which emphasises the idea that true liberation is an internal state of mind.He also focused on the concept of dreaming of the impossible and striving for excellence, just like attempting vocal feats that may be considered difficult or extraordinary.
Vice Chancellor Dr. C.T Aravindakumar inaugurated the programme. Former Director of Kerala State Institute of Languages, Prof. V. Karthikeyan Nair delivered the lecture. Syndicate Members Adv. Reji Zachariah, P. Harikrishnan, Dr. R. Anita, Registrar Dr. K. Jayachandran, Controller of Examinations Dr. C.M Sreejit, Director of College Development Council Dr P.R Biju, and Dr. Aju K. Narayanan also participated.
