Abstracts Invited for Colloquium on Marginality, Memory, and Resistance

The K.R. Narayanan Chair for Human Rights and Social Justice at the School of Social Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, invites abstracts for the colloquium on “Marginality, Memory, and Resistance,” scheduled to be held on March 20 and 21, 2025, at the university’s Pullarikunnu Campus. The event aims to provide a platform for young scholars and mid-career professionals to explore the intersections of subalternity, historical consciousness, and resistance.

The colloquium will examine how marginalised voices are remembered and reclaimed in historical narratives, challenging hegemonic power structures. Discussions will focus on caste and spatial or economic marginality, embodied resistance, Dalit and subaltern histories, decolonising memory, and activism among marginalised groups. Themes such as Dalit women’s agency, intergenerational trauma, caste and intersectionality in literature, and the emerging challenges of digital resistance will also be addressed.

Interested scholars are invited to submit abstracts of 300 words along with a 50-word bio-note in PDF or Word format. Submissions should be sent to rajesh@mgu.ac.in and jobychanranny@gmail.com. The deadline for submission is March 7, 2025, and the notification of acceptance will be sent by March 13, 2025.

The colloquium will take place at the seminar hall of the School of Social Sciences. For more details, contact 9961402105. There is no registration fee for participation.
