MGU U3A Earns Global Acclaim for Innovative Programmes

The University of the Third Age (MGU U3A) at Mahatma Gandhi University has received international recognition for its pioneering initiatives at the prestigious Association of the International University of the Third Age (AIUTA) Asia International Conference, held at Hong Kong Metropolitan University. The organisation lauded MGU U3A’s efforts as a model of excellence in lifelong learning and senior citizen welfare.
 
AIUTA President Prof. François Vellas praised MGU U3A’s remarkable growth, highlighting its swift expansion across all districts of Kerala within just two years and its implementation of high-quality, internationally benchmarked programmes for senior citizens. He also officially launched the MGU U3A newsletter at the event. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Paul Lam Kwan Sing, President of Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
 
A 22-member delegation, led by Vice-Chancellor Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar, represented MGU U3A at the conference, with Dr. Aravindakumar serving as the chief guest at the inaugural session. During the Governing Board meeting and regional roundtable discussions, MGU U3A Director Dr. Tony K. Thomas provided insights into the organisation’s impact. Dr. K.R. Baiju, an advisory board member and university syndicate member, was also part of the delegation.
 
India’s Consul General in Hong Kong, Satwant Khanalia, commended MGU U3A’s contributions to senior education. The MGU team also presented cultural performances, showcasing India’s rich traditions, at the conference, which hosted 120 delegates from 28 countries. Later, the delegation visited the Indian Consulate in Hong Kong at the Consul General’s invitation.
 
Vice-Chancellor Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar stated that this global recognition will further propel MGU U3A’s mission of fostering lifelong learning and innovation in senior education.
