MG University Sets a Model in Building a Knowledge Economy – Minister Dr R. Bindu

Mahatma Gandhi University has emerged as a model in initiatives aimed at creating a new knowledge economy, Minister for Higher Education Dr R. Bindu said. She was speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed hostels and laying the foundation stone for the International Students’ Hostel at the university campus.
 
The University, which has already achieved notable recognition at the international level in academics and research, also leads in socially relevant research. Recognising its potential, the Kerala Institute for Science, Technology and Innovation (KISTI) has been sanctioned here.
 
MG University has also gained the distinction of being the first university campus in the state to set up a hostel for transgender students. The University deserves appreciation for being the first to implement the State Government’s initiative to provide improved hostel facilities for foreign students, the Minister added.
 
Co-operation, Devaswom and Ports Minister V. N. Vasavan, who presided over the function, said that the ₹57-crore sports complex being constructed at Mahatma Gandhi University with KIIFB funding would be completed on schedule.
 
MP Adv. K. Francis George delivered the keynote address. The contractor who undertook the hostel construction was felicitated by MLA Adv. Job Michael.
 
Vice-Chancellor Dr C. T. Aravindakumar, Syndicate member Adv. Reji Zacharia, Registrar Dr Bismi Gopalakrishnan, Department Students’ Union Chairperson V. T. Vinaya, and transgender students’ representative M. Anu Raj also spoke.
 
Ettumanoor Block Panchayat member James Kurian, syndicate and senate members, organisational representatives, department heads, teachers, and students were present.
