In a move to significantly enhance the speed and efficiency of examination valuation and related processes, Mahatma Gandhi University has developed its own QR code-based on-screen evaluation system. The technology, created by a project team from the School of Computer Sciences with financial support from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), is currently being used for the revaluation of the first semester examinations of the MG University Undergraduate Honours (MGU-UGP) programmes.
This system is expected to improve the efficiency of evaluation-related procedures, reduce delays in result publication, and cut down on overall expenses. The system was introduced during the revaluation of answer scripts of the first-semester examinations of the Honours degree programmes.
The initiative involved collaborative efforts from the RUSA project team, teachers involved in the valuation, university staff, and members of the technical team. As a first step, students were provided with the opportunity to apply for revaluation or scrutiny after viewing their answer scripts. Based on the availability of teachers, the system automatically assigned the answer scripts for evaluation.
Once logged in, teachers could view the allocated scripts and carry out the evaluation accordingly. The new system also aids in automating the arrangement and distribution of answer scripts for valuation. A mobile-responsive application has also been developed for the convenience of teachers involved in the process.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. C.T. Aravindakumar stated that the university is committed to accelerating the evaluation process in accordance with its current policies. He added that, subject to Syndicate approval, full-scale implementation of the QR-based on-screen evaluation system would be considered starting next year.
