International Literary Seminar at MGU

The School of Letters, Mahatma Gandhi University, hosted an International Literary Seminar from August 22 to 23 on the theme “Gendered Spaces – Shifts in Literary Discourses.” The seminar opened on August 22 at 10 a.m. with an inaugural address by University Registrar Dr. Bismi Gopalakrishnan.

 
The inaugural session will be presided over by Dr. Saji Mathew, Director, School of Letters, while acclaimed writer and activist Meena Kandasamy will deliver the keynote address. K. S. Susmitha, the seminar coordinator, will give the introductory remarks.
 
Day one will feature plenary talks by A. P. AbduL Salam, Dr. V. Sharada Devi, and Dr. Tony Sebastian. In the evening, a panel discussion on “Visual Representations of Gender Diversity – Embodied Narratives in Malayalam Cinema” will bring together filmmaker Jeo Baby, activist Sheethal Shyam, cultural activist Jolly Chirayath, and critic Dr. Anu Papachan, moderated by filmmaker Sidhartha Siva.
 
On the concluding day, August 23, plenary sessions will include presentations by Dr. Joseph Lawless, Dr. Jisa Jose, M. Anuraj, and C. K. Janu, President of the Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha. The seminar will conclude with a panel discussion on “Gender, Resource Power, and the Social Construction of Language in the Indian Caste System”, featuring C. K. Janu, Pushpamma, Aadhi, Aleena Akashamittayi, and Dr. Maya Pramod, moderated by Dr. Lincy K. Thankappan.
