Dr. Binu George Varghese Appointed as Joint Secretary (Sports), AIU

In a significant achievement for Mahatma Gandhi University and the academic sports community of South India, Dr. Binu George Varghese, Director of the School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, has been appointed as the Joint Secretary (Sports) at the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.

The AIU is a premier national-level organisation that facilitates coordination among Indian universities and represents them in both academic and sports domains at national and international platforms.

This position is the highest administrative role in the field of university-level sports in India, entrusting Dr. Binu with responsibilities including policy formulation, coordination of inter-university championships, and representing Indian universities at global events such as the FISU World University Games.

Dr. Binu’s appointment is particularly noteworthy, as he becomes the first individual from South India to be appointed to this prestigious post.

An experienced sports administrator, Dr. Binu previously served as the Secretary of the Kerala State Sports Council and successfully coordinated the 35th National Games.

Speaking on his new role, Dr. Binu stated that priority will be given to initiatives focused on nurturing top-performing university-level sportspersons, as they are the ones who will become the stars representing India on the international stage in the future.
