                            (Brief Profile)

Dr.C.T. Aravindakumar is a Professor at the School of Environmental Sciences of Mahatma Gandhi University. He is also holding Honorary positions as the Director of the Inter University Instrumentation Centre (A Govt of Kerala Initiative), Coordinator of the National Centre, SAIF-DST and the Director of International Centre for Polar Studies. He joined as a Lecturer initially at the School of Chemical Sciences of Mahatma Gandhi University in 1993 and served there till 2010.

Prof. Aravindakumar is an Environmental Chemist. He received his MSc in Chemistry from the University of Pune. He obtained PhD degree from University of Pune in an interdisciplinary topic of DNA radiation damage under an exchange programme with Max-Plank-Institute for Radiation chemistry, Germany under ICSC-World Laboratory Fellowship. He did Post-Doctoral research at (i) the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium (in Biochemistry), (ii) Max-Planck-Institute, Germany (in Free radical Chemistry), and (iii) Free University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands (in Biophysics). He was also a visiting faculty / visiting professor/scientist in several reputed Universities or research organizations in nearly 16 countries in Europe, USA, Australia and Asia. He received full visiting professor title twice from the University of Paris (E), France. His recent research interest includes Oxidation technology for water purification, Polar environmental research, monitoring of Emerging contaminants in water bodies, membrane technology for water purification, Air pollution and protein-pollutant interaction.

He has already established nearly 15 national and international collaborations including MoUs with prestigious research centres in India and abroad. He has over 400 publications in International Journals/Conference proceedings/Conference presentations/book chapters/reviews/editorials. He completed 20 national and international major research projects (total > Rs.15 Crores) including the prestigious Obama-Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative with Duke University, USA. 30 students obtained PhD under his guideship/co-guideship. He presented research papers in over 50 national and international conferences (plenary/invited/Chair) within India and in countries such as Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France, Norway, Denmark, USA, Japan, Australia, Thailand, Hong-Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brazil, Russia, Slovakia and Korea.

He was the team leader of India’s Arctic Expedition in July 2017. He was selected for the LEAP programme of MHRD in 2019, and ERASMUS fellowship from the European Union, 2019. Presently he is serving as expert member in many National/international bodies related to environmental research.

He has completed 28 years as a teacher and researcher in MG University. He was the Dean of Environmental and Atmospheric Sciences, the Director of School of Environmental Sciences and the Convener of ERUDITE Programme in MG University. He has been a member of several academic bodies and is a former member of MG University Syndicate, Senate and Academic council. He was the former Director of IQAC of MG University.

Besides his scientific research, he has interest in environmental education, environmental policies and governance.
