Only 21 state universities across India have been awarded this prestigious classification.<\/div>\n\u00a0<\/div>\nWith Category 1 status, MGU gains unparalleled academic freedom under Clause 4 of the UGC\u2019s 2018 regulations. This opens doors for innovative curriculum development, establishment of off-campus centres, new study departments, constituent colleges, science parks, and other academic ventures\u2014all without external approvals.<\/div>\n\u00a0<\/div>\nA key advantage of this autonomy is the ability to offer distance education programmes independently, eliminating the need for UGC approval.
