In collaboration with the Elikkulam Gram Panchayat, which recently received recognition as the State&#8217;s best neighbourhood organisation for the elderly, MGU is embarking on a pilot project to empower senior citizens through the U3A programme.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Commencing in March of this year, the U3A programme at MG University has established units in all 14 districts of the state, with a membership exceeding 200 individuals. Each unit is led by a facilitator from a different region of the state, and regular unit-level meetings will be conducted to discuss the project&#8217;s progress.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">To ensure efficient operation and coordination, a two-tier system will be instituted at the district and zonal levels. The formation of these U3A units is being facilitated by the dedicated members of the &#8216;Butterfly Foundation for Social Metamorphosis,&#8217; a volunteer movement. The methodology employed in these units is rooted in the growth psychology theory known as Theme Centred Interaction.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) C.T. Aravindakumar, envisions this initiative as a catalyst for social change. By introducing the U3A programme to villages, it aims to create more intergenerational interactions and provide additional opportunities for seniors.
