Chief Minister\u00a0 Pinarayi\u00a0 Vijayan presented the Paristhithi Mithram Award for the best environmental researcher to Dr. Mahesh Mohan of Department of Environmental Sciences,\u00a0 Mahatma Gandhi University,\u00a0 Kottayam at the state-level inauguration ceremony of the Environment Day celebrations held in Thiruvananthapuram the other day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The award instituted by Department of Environment and Climate Change of the State Government comprises a plaque, certificate\u00a0 and a cash prize of \u20b9 1,00,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Dr.\u00a0 Mahesh\u00a0 is the joint director of The International Centre for Polar Studies in the university. Focus areas of his research include\u00a0 Arctic pollution, environmental regeneration, conservation of non-timber forest resources,\u00a0 Miyawaki forestry, environmental management , environmental impact assessment and controlling mercury pollution.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He is associated with UNDP in the activities related to the conservation of forests along the banks of the Chalakudy River; he\u00a0 has been part of India’s Arctic expedition programme\u00a0 since 2014. He also serves as the member of State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority and the green protocol nodal officer of the\u00a0 M.G\u00a0 University.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
